What they said was that this was OK, the original switch
for the fans came on at 80 degrees, the one they get now come on at 90. Is
it possible to get the 80 degree switches, or has anyone fitted a kenlowe
type variable switch? Should the fans be on at in normal conditions anyway?

Zak - the aftermarket switch supplied by K&D comes in at around 87 deg.
(going from memory - Keri please correct if wrong).

I ended up installing an adjustable switch on my Lamborghini, in place of
that switch, so I could set it to come on a bit earlier and have a better
chance of keeping the temp down.

Having said that, my 71 high compression engine has no real problem with
cooling (new pump, redone rad, new engine, old style Lucas switch), and keeps
things down to not much over the centre mark, except in heavy traffic on a
hot day, and even when it gets up there, it never boils with a 15 lb. cap.

The CV-8 with sixpack (also high compression) also has no trouble, although
when it is over 100 deg. outside, it of course heads up a bit. I use a large
aftermarket fan that mounts to the core on that car; the 71 has Lucas fans,
that have been checked for efficiency.

You may have a clogged radiator, but I would also suggest this - disconnect
each fan, and hook up a battery charger to each in turn to see what the draw
is. You may find that one or both are making enough noise to make you, and
the garage, think they are working, when actually they may not be producing
much except noise.

I don't recall what the draw should be, but I'm sure someone else does,
failing which I can look it up for you.
