That would be true.
The 907 should always be fitted with the correct "double-piston" thermostat. If
fitted with the incorrect part, or if the thermostat is removed, the coolant flow to
the radiator is disrupted. A significant portion of the heated water from the block
can circulate back through the pump and to the engine again without passing through
the radiator.
The correct thermostats re readily available from the usual suspects (Delta, Bean,
etc.)
