You can pay about 2000 GBP for something along the lines of WS 2002 (if Bill was interested !), 4000 GBP for WS 200 (the lower the number the higher the price
That still seems bizarre to me - that people would pay more than the car with the plate on it is worth for a number like that. I can see that it might be fun to have something with your initials on it, for a relatively modest price (as you were talking about buying, Chris) but to spend 4000 GBP strikes me as too little brain and far too much disposable income!
But then I am persona non grata at one of the Lamborghini groups these days (the new car inflated head, not the old car nice people one) when I stated a similar opinion. Those guys have to own a new Lambo, it has to be bright red to draw attention, and they also want to put a plate on its that draws more attention (I think I may have suggested 'SLFMPRSD').
My suggestion that such obsessive seeking of ratification and approval might bespeak an underlying insecurity went over like the predictable lead balloon.
In BC, anyone that wants to can pay a very modest additional annual sum and get a 'vanity' plate, and old plates are not transferable to anyone else's car. This kills any market in old plates and also provides a modest amount of entertainment when you see one of those vanity plates and try to work out why they saw fit to apply for that particular one in the first place.
A friend who is a heavy duty wine aficionado has 'Yquem' on his Mercedes, but the bright light that applied for '4Q' was shot down pretty quick. Some even try to work out what will spell something interesting, or rude, only when viewed in someone's rear view mirror. Sometimes clever, but perhaps a bit too much time on their hands.....?
