Hi Jaron, during startup of Jetspeed the PA in the database is checked against the local PA in the filesystem represented by the PA descriptors (portlet.xml, jetspeed-portlet.xml). If they differ the local PA descriptors are deployed to the database. Since this process is not locking in the database there can occur DB constraint violations if multiple cluster nodes try to modify the DB at the same time, resulting in inaccessible PAs in one or many cluster nodes.
The VersionedPortletApplicationManager simplifies the deployment process and the patch under https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JS2-893 synchronizes the deployment to the database clusterwide, respectively.
