For clarification, Jetspeed-2 has not added any JCR integration features yet. 
I believe it would be done for Jetspeed-2.2.2 release later because we are 
willing to release Jetspeed-2.2.1 soon.
By the way, the efforts from Hippo open source projects such as Hippo Site 
Toolkit are just a kind of bridging solution from the portlet application 
framework side. They are not directly related to the coming JCR integration 
features as noted in David's blog. [1]
Also, I believe the coming JCR integration feature of Jetspeed-2.2.2 must be 
compatible with any JCR compliant repositories such as Jackrabbit and Hippo 
Repository. (If Joomla support JCR standard, then I don't think there's any 
problem to use that as a backend repository.)
