Many DNS services support dynamic DNS. Dyn comes to mind. I use DNS Made Easy and they do, too, and i run an OpenVPN server at home, running on a Raspberry Pi, and to connect to it, I use a hostname that I dynamically update periodically using a shell script running on the Pi. My Internet connection at home has a dynamic IP address. My provider doesn’t offer static IPs on residential connections.
I’d be happy to share my DNS Made Easy shell script if you want. It pulls a PHP page off my web server that simply returns my public IP. I can give you that PHP script too. All you have to do is ask.
