             Actor & Legendary Folk Singer, Theodore Bikel Sings and Signs 
                                His New CD at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts

Los Angeles, CA - On September 20, Hatikvah Music International will be 
sponsoring "AN EVENING WITH THEODORE BIKEL" in honor of the release of his new CD, 
"Theodore Bikel's Treasury of Yiddish Folk & Theatre Songs" and to recognize 
his many contributions to the arts. The CD, issued by Rhino Handmade Records, 
reprises twenty-six of Bikel's greatest recordings produced by Jac Holzman, 
founder of Electra Records.

Born in Vienna in 1924, studied drama at Tel Aviv's Hamimah Theatre and the 
Royal Academy of Dramatic arts in London, Mr. Bikel went on to major roles on 
stage, screen and television. He starred on Broadway in the original cast of 
"The Sound of Music" and has recorded over 20 albums. He has appeared in over 25 
films, including "The African Queen," "The Russians Are Coming," and the 
"Defiant Ones" for which he received an Oscar nomination for best supporting 
actor. 

Mr. Bikel has appeared in over one hundred television dramas ranging from 
Bonanza to ER and is the recipient of an Emmy Award, and has performed the role 
of Tevye in the touring company of Fiddler On The Roof in over 2,000 
performances. As one of the cofounders of the Newport Folk Festival, Bikel's long arts 
activism includes helping to establish the National Council on the Arts (and 
later the National Endowment for the Arts).


“An Evening with Theodore Bikel", Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m., will

be presented at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, located at 357 North La Brea Avenue,

Los Angeles, 90036.  Limited seating for this event is open and free to the

public. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 323-938-5222.
