By Peter Lokale Nakimangole TORIT, 17th August 2011 [Gurtong] – The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Eastern Equatoria State (EES) intended to elect a new party Secretary General on the 13th August 2011 following the resignation of Mr. Celesio Ohisa last March but the event was unexpectedly cancelled. The meeting, attended by the State Liberation Council members at CADOT Hall in Torit last Saturday, shockingly ended with a cancellation at the last minute after the party Secretary General (SG) at head office in Juba directed the State party chairperson, Hon. Louis Lobong Lojore to stop the exercise. Hon. Lobong who is also the State Governor was presiding over the Liberation Council meeting on that day. Lobong briefed the press after the meeting that the national level SPLM secretariat officials informed him that they will soon conduct a massive party restructuring at federal and State levels but not at County levels. “The SPLM SG in Juba informed me over telephone that elections for the key position would not carry on because the SPLM sets to restructure party secretariats at federal and State levels except Counties,” Lobong revealed. Comrade Lobong disclosed that the SPLM party had decided to carry out the upcoming exercise because some party members were discontented during and after the 2010 April elections while adding that the forthcoming initiative aims at strengthening the party to stoutly refocus its vision for serving the nation. After the resignation of comrade Ohisa in the 28th of March, 201, Mr. Felix Okanyi Remijo, the State party’s deputy chairperson was immediately appointed by the Chairperson to serve in the capacity of SG for 3 months after which elections would be held. But still, the liberation council by consensus confirmed Okanyi to continue to act as the SG until restructuring of the party commences as per the directive from Juba, Lobong explained. Two officials; the Acting SG Hon. Okanyi and the new Party’s Assistant Secretary for Political & Mobilisation comrade Onek Benson Mark, were sworn in before the liberation council when the meeting drew to an end. Comrade Onek replaces Hon. Anisia Achieng Karlo who was recently appointed to the Council of States in Juba by President Kiir through a presidential decree.
