Payinjiar has recently experienced a lot of flooding due to last
week’s heavy rainfall.
In an interview with Sudan Tribune, Joak said all the recently planted
crops has been destroyed by the floods.
Joak urged international NGOs to provide aid before the situation
worsens. As well as the inevitable food shortage, there are fears of
water-borne disease.
On Thursday Taker Riak Dong, Leer county commissioner, told state
radio that his county has also been affected by the flooding.
Much of the Unity state has been affected by unpredictable rainfall
this year. The planting of crops was delayed as the rains came. It is
feared that this will result in widespread food shortages.
