South Sudan president gets modern office
TUESDAY, 23 AUGUST 2011 WRITTEN BY ANTHONY KAMBA

The new office of the President of South Sudan.

The President of South Sudan has said the country now stands as equals
with its Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) partner, Sudan, in
resolving remaining provisions of the agreement.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit made the remark Monday during the
official opening of his new office that has undergone renovation for
the past two years.

Kiir said that South Sudan can now stand as an equal of Sudan in
discussing matters in front of an international body to resolve the
remaining protocols of the independence-granting agreement.

“We enter into agreement as equals, not one being superior and the
other subordinate,” he stressed.

He said much as independence was the first thing he wanted for the
people of South Sudan, development was the next thing he wished to see
in his people.

He called for patience and hard work for development.

“The spirit of hard work must be maintained. I said it on the day of
independence that let us celebrate the independence but make sure that
tomorrow morning you get up sober and go to work” Salva reminded South
Sudanese.

He urged his fellow citizens to “work hard and harder.”

The office is the first of its kind in South Sudan as a nation. It
also contains a western wing and the eastern side offices of the
president.

Kiir stressed that moving into the new office block signifies a new
era in the struggle for the development of the new nation calling it a
“step-by-step process.”

The new office was redesigned and constructed by Makover Construction
Company under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Physical
Planning.

The president used to sit in an office at the ministries complex next
to the National Legislative Assembly.
