TORIT, 25th August 2011 [Gurtong] – During a 3 Day conference closure
on Development Plan in Eastern Equatoria State, the Director of
Misereor Institution of Germany Bishops’ conference for Development in
Germany, Mons Joseph Sayer said that the church was seeking to support
South Sudan in developing various sectors of the economy.

The various sectors that Misereor Institution seeks to support include
Education, Health Care, Construction of Vocational Training Schools,
Water & Sanitation, upgrading Teachers’ Capacity and the promotion of
Agriculture.

The State conference on Development plan was attended by key leaders
namely; EES former Governor and GOSS’s presidential Advisor Hon.
Ceasar Baye Loyalala (currently an MP at National Legislative Assembly
(NLA) in Juba), the former GOSS’ Infrastructure Minister Hon. Martin
Okeruk (MP at NLA), Hon. Abdallah Lomongin Kapelo the GOSS’ former
Minister of Health, Hon. Theophilus Ochang former Chairperson for
Commission of Recovery Fund (MP at NLA), David Nailo (MP at NLA), Hon.
Francis Ben Ataba (MP in the Council of States) and the Eastern
Equatoria State Governor Hon. Lobong Loroje with his entire Cabinet,
State Advisors, County Commissioners among others.

Mons Joseph Sayer said that currently the church was actively engaged
in mobilizing resources like finances, construction materials and
technical personnel to suitably embark on mass development in the new
nation from the federal level to the lowest levels of administration.

“I held talks with the two Germany Ministries of Cooperation and
Foreign Affairs to consider supporting South Sudan, I got an
impression that they were both positive,” Sayer revealed.

He explained that Churches in Germany were together with the peoples
of South Sudan during the decades of the civil war in the then Sudan.

He said that he witnessed the suffering of South Sudanese and saw them
being bombed. “I was with the then Bishop Paride Taban of the Diocese
of Torit when I visited the region in 2000. We visited several
villages where locals cultivated their farms... While we were in the
villages carrying out evangelization work and humanitarian support, we
were bombed together with the village inhabitants. I saw huts being
burnt every time, everyday,” he lamented the South Sudan ordeal.

The Director commended the Government of the Republic of South Sudan
for its commitment to let its people realize their desire. However, he
challenged leaders to fulfil the high expectations of citizens whose
relatives' blood carpeted the birth of their new nation and to make
use of the flowing opportunities.
