obama-kiir-2011The US President, Barack Obama, has pledged to continue supporting the people of South Sudan. The president announced his support during a meeting on Wednesday with President Salva Kiir, on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York. The two leaders discussed issues of mutual concern between the United States of America and the Republic of South Sudan. They also discussed issues pertaining to good governance in South Sudan, the peace process, the need to resolve the remaining issues of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and the post-independence arrangements. "The two leaders also discussed the importance of maintaining transparency and the rule of law and supporting South Sudan on a path to economic progress" according to News agency reports. President Obama said the conflicts in Sudan's Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile States must end.
