A three day workshop deliberating on new ways of approaching the fight
against HIV/AIDS in South Sudan ended on Friday in Juba, highlighting
on ten ways on how the new nation should deal with the pandemic.

AIDS Commission Outlines 10 Ways To Fight HIV/AIDS

JUBA, 2nd September 2011 [Gurtong] – A three day workshop deliberating
on new ways of approaching the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Sudan
ended on Friday in Juba, highlighting on ten ways on how the new
nation should deal with the pandemic.

Organized by the South Sudan Aids Commission, (SSAC), the workshop
drew over 200 participants from all the ten States who included;
senior staffs of the commission, partners both national and foreign,
other government officials, religious groups, community and political
leaders.

The participants outlined the following measures:
“A stigma and discrimination (S&D) index survey will be commissioned
to gather evidence for development of a S&D reduction strategy for
South Sudan,

The strategy for reduction of stigma and discrimination will be
developed and disseminated,

Each State to carryout resource mapping specifying; gaps, priority
geographical areas and indicators to focus on,

Each State will outline a STATE RESPONSE plan indicating
interventions, targets, and responsible actors.

A behaviour survey to be conducted to provide more comprehensive
evidence for effective planning,

The private sector coordination network/group will be established to
outline the specific role of the private sector,

A high level meeting will be organized at national level to engage the
legislative council and the council of ministers to garner support for
order for line ministries to effectively undertake mainstreaming of
HIV/AIDS,

A conference with participation of other countries will be organized
at national level to engage high leadership, partners, and
stakeholders to strategize implementation of interventions for: ZERO
discrimination, ZERO new infections and ZERO HIV related deaths,

M&E (monitoring and evaluation) guidelines and tools for the community
response will be disseminated to all States and the following M&E
activities will be undertaken;

Prepare reports for the community response for the period
January-December 2011; joint field visits initiated; quarterly reviews
of the State response; and establishment of computerized data bases at
Sudan Aids Commission’s offices (SAC), and

A marketing strategy for resource mobilization by SSAC will be
outlined with relevant tools.
