The minister of information and official spokesman of the government,
Barnaba Marial Benjamin, on 29 September told the press that Kiir
briefed the Council of Ministers about his meeting with Obama.
Kiir met Obama on 21 September at the UN General Assembly, where South
Sudan was welcomed into the UN fold two after it gained independence
from the rest of Sudan.
Kiir told the South Sudanese population he will tackle the issue of
corruption after a series of high profile incidents. This includes
billions of US dollars spent on contracts signed by the ministry of
finance with fictitious companies to deliver the grain throughout the
country.
Marial explained that Kiir also discussed the need for good
governance, transparency and accountability in South Sudan with Obama.
