Call me paranoiac about restore not working, but I had few joys with different IOS having different default settings causing some fun side effect on hardware swap. I saw :
* different interface default
* different EIGRP behaviour
* RIP issue (stopped working all together after the replacement of a 7204 with another with a different IOS).
* etc.
I still think cisco miss a "dump me all the value for everything, even default values" when you do a backup of the config.
Well it seems they re-wrote the whole IOS for the new router
