Hi
In my /etc/syslog.conf file it shows that local6.* should end up in
/var/log/cisco, and I've configured my router to send syslog via local6 and
yet I don't see any /var/log/cisco...I do see these messages which are from
the router I've configured;

09:45:44.434534 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83
09:45:57.271528 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83

These are syslog messages, correct? Where could the problem be? Any ideas.
Thanks

jason

Hi
Well, it looks like the syslog messages are hitting the jffnms box as I see
them when I do tcpdump -n port 514, and then do a copy run start on my
router...but if I try and view the syslog table in the database (through
phpmyadmin), there are no records in syslog. Thanks

Jason

Usually on the router is you do a "write mem" it will syslog an event
depending on logging level..:)

Subject: [jffnms-users] Syslog messages into event viewer

Hi
So I've followed the steps in the install guide to get syslog working with
jffnms, yet I cant seem to get any messages into the event viewer. I run
tcpdump -n port 514 and I see messages coming in;

11:51:43.737372 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83
11:51:45.412250 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83
11:52:08.218958 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83
12:02:14.043500 172.31.249.105.4707 > 10.1.254.250.514:  udp 83

And I've got the following line in my syslog.conf file;

local*.*                %mysql -s localhost -u jffnms -p jffnms -d
jffnms -t
syslog

Yet I don't see any messages within the event viewer. Is there someway to
simulate an syslog message for testing as I'm currently relying on the
router to generate messages...which could take a while. Any ideas. Thanks.
