Well guys here is a frustrating update and maybe someone can add a different spin to this that I have not seen.

I am pretty convinced that the environment needs to be Apache 2, PHP 5 and MySQL 5 just so future installs won't have to deal with potential upgrade issues and locating old source code for the make install process.

I have gotten Apache 2 working but I am still streamlining that process and hopefully PHP 5 will not be an issue.

My biggest problem is MySQL 5.  I am finding very little help in terms of tutorials, guides, or HowTo documents for *nix systems.  Before v5 the install process was pretty straight forward and I was able to get it up and running.  Remember I am trying to use ports rather than downloading the tar from the MySQL site.  But v5 seems to be more restrictive as to Whom can install it.  I have tried root, my id, and the id mysql.  All of which has their own set of errors.  From a consistency standpoind I have been trying on two seperate laptops and each of them has had FreeBSD reinstalled at least 6 times each (I know, I know - but that's how I learn an OS; practice practice practice).  So it's not the download load itself, CD, ftp site or my installation.  This appears to be purely a lack of knowledge; on my end for sure.

So if any any has any experience with installing MySQL as a new install and not upgrade please throw me a helpful hand.  Others will benefit.

Many Thanks!

Buddy
