That's strange; while this is not a Nagios email list I'd have to say a
correctly tuned Nagios installation would have the least hit to the
server for pretty much any NMS. The trick being how good your plugins
are.

People do use that, so there is no reason why it won't work.

An SNMP agent lives on the thing you are trying to monitor. JFFNMS uses
the SNMP client code in PHP to talk to the router's SNMP agent.

I've not heard people doing this, but there is no reason why you
couldn't use Solaris 10. The main thing is getting PHP installed
correctly.

Most people seem to hover around the 100 mark. There are some
installations with over 300. See

for a list of what people (on this list) are doing.

Don't try doing that with IDE disk drives! Or not much memory. I'd say
drive speed is more important than memory, which is more important than
CPU speed.
