Now that is plain wierd. The problem changes depending if you run it
manually or not. That sounds like a permission problem or perhaps a
user-specific php problem.

You don't have multiple copies of rrdtool installed?

reachability? That sounds like a fping permission problem, strange it
cleared itself up.

Did you remove the rrd files when you did this?  Could you remove one
set of them?  The reason is it may be that the rrdfiles created with one
version of rrdtool are now being worked on by another.  It shouldn't
matter but it has before.
