As the code changed to take advantage of the new features in the 2.4 series
kernel, it has become difficult to maintain JFS on both 2.2 and 2.4
kernels.
Now that the distributions are shipping 2.4 kernels, there is little
incentive
to put any resources into maintaining a 2.2 version of JFS.

JFS is beginning to ship in the 2.4 kernels of some distributions
(Mandrake, SuSE,
and TurboLinux), and we hope to soon have JFS included in Marcelo's 2.4
kernel as
well as 2.5 kernels. The JFS team doesn't think there is enough demand to
warrant
the time and effort to push JFS into the 2.2 kernels.

If someone were to submit patches against the 2.2.x versions of JFS, we
could
surely put them into the repository and package up new releases as needed.
