Hello all,

we were using JFS 1.0.10 on a SuSE 7.3 with kernel 2.4.10 for a few
month now. Today, we tried to update to the new SuSE kernel 2.4.16
which already includes JFS 1.0.10.
Afer compiling the kernel and the modules, everything worked out
perfectly. The system started after a reboot without problems and
worked for several hours.

When we later tried to reboot the system (after a normal shutdown)
the mandatory fsck.jfs faild and a message appeared on the screen
that told us to login and repair the filesystem manually.
BTW: We use JFS on root(/) on a linux soft-raid 5 array of three ide disks.

We tried every option of fsck.jfs, but the result is always like this:

#> fsck.jfs -p -v /dev/md0
fsck.jfs version 1.0.10, 28-nov-2001
fsck device /dev/md0 is currently mounted READ ONLY.
the current device is : /dev/md0

(chklog) FSCK OPEN(...READ/WRITE EXCLUSIVE...) returned rc = 0
(chklog) FSCK Primary Superblock is valid
(chklog) FSCK The type of file system for the device is JFS

Block size in bytes: 4096
File system size in bytes: 19822016

Phase 0 - Replay journal log
(chklog) FSCK: logredo Journal log is now open (major=0x00, minor=0x00)
(chklog) FSCK: Log already redone!
(chklog) FSCK: logredo returned rc=0

Phase 1 - Check Blocks, Files/Directories and Directory Entries
(chklog) FSCK: Invalid Data (45) detected in file system Object DF181728

(chklog) FSCK: File system Object DF181728 has corrupt data (40).

(chklog) FSCK: processing terminated : <date> with return code: -11010

That's it... we are currently not able to boot the system at all.
So what can we do to get the system running again??

Thanks,
Sascha
