Someone a while back provided instructions on how to fix this by going into the about:config part of Firefox and switching some values. I didn't save them at the time, but did make the changes suggested and it did work. Perhaps someone who did save them or can recall this particular post can provide them to the list again. It may have even been the Jaws Users list. Nevertheless, there is a fix to it.
