Well, I guess I failed to notice I was sending to an entire list. Now I'll
really get in trouble for being "social".

Subject: Moving to Oregon

Adrian,

I'll be sending out a blanket message to a large distribution list of family
and friends, but wanted to make this more personal.

We are truly pulling the trigger on the "Carlson Retirement Adventure".

When we last corresponded, I think I told you that we purchased two rental
houses in Bend Oregon, one built and the other to be built. We have a tenant
in that first one, and planned to live in the second when completed in
August.

Everything got pulled up when the builder was planning to complete rental #2
end of June. So we started planning to sell Monica Lane in San Jose and move
North.

We took a quick trip there early in May to look at a possible home, but
ultimately decided to consider purchasing a 1/2 acre lot and plan to have a
home built on it. About 20 miles outside Bend, but pretty nice.

The night before we were to drive back to San Jose, Carol's sister told her
about a house she heard was about to go on market, and that it would be
"perfect". Janet used to live in Bend, and the network was a
friend-of-a-friend hookup, literally. So that evening we drove to the house
and it was "the one". We are now in contract to purchase, and in about two
days will see what offers we get on our home here in San Jose.

We'll hit the road on July 2 if all plans work, and our belongings will
catch up with us on the 7th of July in Bend.

A nice 2100 sq. ft. home, single story cedar siding with vaulted ceilings
and a view of the Cascade mountains to the west -- so Carol's happy. A 2.6
acre lot with lots of trees and room to run -- so Winchester's happy. A
two-car garage with a separate 20 x 22 foot shop, and room to park a
truck/camper -- so Dave's happy. We will be pioneers in a real sense, as we
are a few miles from the nearest store. So no more walking to pick up a few
groceries, prescriptions, library books, etc. That part I think will be the
hardest adjustment for me, not being quite as independent as I was in a
suburban environment. But time will tell, and time we have.

But sadly we will put 500 miles between us and our grandson. That's the only
fly in the ointment.

So now you know the whole story.
