I used a small nifty program called autohotkey to set the windows key + escape to restart the computer, and shift windows key plus escape to shut down the computer. If you look on this page: http://www.jaws-users.com/text/Shortcuts/Windows7/index.html, you can search for the word shut and there will be a shutdown shortcut file that you could download and after extracting it, there can be a shutdown option somewhere on your computer. I say somewhere, because I have it on the desktop, but others might want it elsewhere. Just because it's win 7, does not mean, it will not work for win 8 or 8.1.
