I think what you're trying to do is a "save as" to convert a file from one type to another. Though I don't know how to do it using the f10 key, here is how I did it in older versions of Word. Press alt-F which places you in the file menu. Arrow down until you here "save as" then press enter. This places you in the save as dialog box. Tab once to the list of file types then arrow up or down until you find the type you want. Tab to ok and press enter.
