Tom, using your current version of JAWS, your best bet is to perform an OCR
of your screen, when you have an unreadable PDF in focus. To do this, you
will need to press JAWS Key plus the space bar to activate the layer menu.
JAWS should make an audible sound indicating that you've done this
successfully. Then press the letter O. JAWS should announce OCR. Then
press S for screen. You can also press W for window, if the screen option
does not give you what you want.

Should you be interested, JAWS 16 has a feature that will allow you to scan
a document using the above method. The only difference is instead of
pressing S for Screen, you would press D for document. JAWS 16 is only
available as a Beta currently, but it's supposed to be released as a full
running update at the end of this month. Not sure if that will happen or
not. I hope this information helps you.

How exactly is this done?

I use Jaws 14, and get scanned image PDF files all the time at work.

I suspect the OCR translation will not be perfect, but I suppose it's better
than nothing.

What can you do about that?

I bet it's that the file is an image and your friends can read it but you
can't.

Hi folks! I'm encountering an odd issue with JAWS andAdobe PDF files. I
prefer to read them using the web browser lay-out. The problem has recently
popped up using JARS 14.0.9002. When I load the file, JAWS says page view,
and then says blank blank blank when I press the arrow keys. A sighted
person can see that there is information on the screen, but JAWS is not
reporting that. Is there a setting using Adobe XI. Where I can change
this. Does the problem lie within the Internet Explorer settings?
