Tom,
Since it is a new computer, the only screen reader you will have available is Narrator. If you are comfortable using Narrator, you can download the latest build of JAWS 16 from the FS web site and install it. Once you've located the file you downloaded and started the installation, you can shut down Narrator and let the talking installation do the rest. Of course, you can avoid the use of Narrator by using sighted assistance to download and install JAWS for you.

Alternatively, you can use the talking installation on the cd to install JAWS without using Narrator or sighted assistance and then check for updates to get the latest build of JAWS 16. I think it's just a matter of convenience which method you use.

Subject: Question On How Best To Install Jaws 16

Hello, all.

I realize I may get differing opinions on this, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I am going to be receiveing a new office computer at the University where I
teach in about 3 weeks. When the new computer arrives, I'll be upgrading
from Jaws 14 to Jaws 16.

My University already has ordered Jaws 16 for me, including an SMA for two
additional upgrades.

My question is this: Since this will be a fresh installation, would it be
best for me to do the installation of Jaws 16 directly from the CD, or from
the FS web site?

I know that people have had installation issues when using the CD for
earlier versions of Jaws, which is the reason behind my question.

I also eventually plan to put Jaws 16 on my home PC, and another laptop I
use for ham radio applications, but that will be another project for another time. Again, of course, I'd like to know whether working from the Jaws CD,
or the FS web site would be the best way to install the Jaws 16 upgrade.

Thank you!

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan
