Filtering: Always make sure to have the folder made already that messages are to be filtered into. Under the desired mailbox, control-shift-e to create new folder. That brings up a dialog, first thing, name the box, tab twice to location where it's going in.
Rule for someone, example, John Smith: we want to filter his messages. App key on his message, up to Rules submenu, hit enter. You'll see Always move messages from, hit enter. Choose folder where you want them to go. Hitting enter applies the rule immediately. Hope it helps.
