Gary,

This is useful information, and you're right, the applications key brings up a 
different menu depending on whether I reach the link by arrowing or tabbing. I 
hadn't known. That said, Audible's instruction to press the pass-through key 
combo is confusing when all a visitor need do is press enter to reach the item 
named in the link.

Adrian,
In order to get the pass through to work properly, you must tab to the links 
with the submenus instead of using your arrow keys.  This is due to a 
long-standing problem that JAWS has of focusing a link.  To see an example 
of this, arrow to a link; then press your Applications key and note the menu 
choices.  Then tab to the same link and repeat the process.  You should see 
a different menu.
