Yes, it would affect the functioning of iTunes. However, I phoned a friend,
and he gave me the key commands to cause the current e-mail message to be
displayed in your default Internet browser.
The key strokes are:
ALT plus the letter H, followed by the letter a, followed by the letter V
At this point, your e-mail with the link will load into Internet Explorer.
Then, tab to the link, Press the Applications Key, and arrow down to Save
Target As.
That should work for you.

If I just removed Quicktime, would that affect the functioning of playing
music inside iTunes?

It doesn't seem as if you will be able to do anything with any of those
options.
The only thing I can suggest is to find a way to disable QuickTime, at
least temporarily.

Hi Bill,
I'm using IE 11. But, the link is in an Outlook message.
When I tab to the link and hit the Applications key, nothing happens.
When I tab to the link and hit Shift + F10, I get a menu list with
possible actions of Select Hyperlink, Open Hyperlink, or Copy
Hyperlink. I'm not sure what to do with these options.
Thanks, Keith

Hi, Keith. I just tried this and it works.
First, I don't know which Internet browser you use, Internet Explorer,
or Firefox. I'll assume for the moment that you are using Internet
Explorer.
Use your tab key to go to the link, but do not press the enter key on
the link. Instead, use your Applications key and arrow down to where
it says "Save Target As", and press Enter. This will download the file
to your customary download directory.
If, instead of Internet Explorer, you are using Firefox:
Use your tab key to go to the link, but do not press the enter key on
the link. Press the Applications Key, or if your keyboard does not
have an Applications Key, use Shift plus F10. This time, instead of
looking for "Save Target As", look for "Save Link Location". Press
Enter, and your file will download to the customary directory you use
for downloads in Firefox.
I hope this helps you.

Yes, it's Windows and JAWS. Tthanks. That's why I sent it to the JAWS
for Windows list. Didn't know I'd need to specify that information,
but sure glad to learn that that's apparently important to do here.
I'm guessing it mus be an embedded player as I clicked on the link in
the message and it started playing. How do I get that link to
download so I can play it in winamp or wmp?
Thanks. Keith

Keith,
the reason I did not respond earlier was because you did not state
which platform you were using, such as Windows or iOS. If it were
Windows, as this is a JAWS list, simply use Winamp or windows Media
player or any number of MP3 players to control audio playback. If
you were using an imbeded audio player on a website, download the
file and play in a media player such as Winamp.

Hi,
I received the link to a podcast below.
It starts playing automatically, but I can't seem to figure out how
to control playback, Pause, Rewind, etc.
Can someone explain to me how to learn controls for downloaded audio?
Thanks. Keith
