My JAWS says Unicode. I just thought that some message were Unicode, and
that JAWS announced that for some reason.

In Thunderbird, try this. (By the way, I have JAWS 15 and I have the
same problem. After your message, I tried this and it seems to help.)
1. Open Thunderbird.
2. In a message list, go to the View menu, and arrow down to Character
Encoding submenu.
3. Open the Submenu with the right arrow, and arrow down to western
(ISO-8859-1) and press Enter to check it.
Now, I'm not sure how that will affect Unicode messages, but most
messages I see in the U.S. are either in ISO-8859-1, ISO-1252, or
Unicode. I've turned on ISO-8859-1, and so far so good.

something about it!
