As long as I can choose the voice and speed I would say I generally prefer synthesized narration over a human as it is. There are a few exceptionally good human narrators for which this is not true but they are a definite minority. And recorded audio is harder to manipulate to the fast rate I like than synthesizers (I have been told by several people listening to stuff at the rate I use that it simply sounds like a buzz to them).
