Peter: Sorry! I thought that I was replying to the JFW list. I have been assuming that ctrol+r would reply to the "list"; but, this must be a mistake. From now on, I will use ctrol+shift+r to ensure that my response goes to the whole list. Thanks.
In fact, I too have learned much from the questions and answers I have seen, and others have made the same comment. As long as one picks the topics wisely, one could learn much from these "discussions". However, I must say that this list serve is burning up my iPhone's data plan - only 300 MBs. monthly. Right now, I have my iPhone settings to retrieve e-mail manually so that I can download my e-mails in a WIFI environment. Jim H P.S.: If you used to live in Toronto, I am pretty sure that we met several times during the '80s and '90s. I seem to recall running into you, at least once, at the Royal York Subway station, back in the day, and on other ocasions as well. A couple of other listers' names seem quite familiar also. Small world! Cheers. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Peter Tesar via Jfw Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2015 6:04 PM To: [email protected] Cc: Peter Tesar <[email protected]> Subject: Fwd: RE: Uninstalling older versions of JAWS... Using "Narrator" hello, Can you please send your messages to the JAWS list? There will be others interested in your question and the answer. Narrator is not a substitute for a good screen reader. You use Narrator when there nothing else. I don't know about documentation. All I would use Narrator for is to tab through the objects. That will give you some idea about the screen. As far as the default settings, presented at the end of the Windows 10 installation, I would tab to the OK or continue button. If you know what you are doing, you can hit the space bar to check or uncheck the settings. Narrator calls these toggles and turns them on or off. JAWS calls them buttons. This is something new to me. They behave like checkboxes but they are not announced as check boxs. After installing Windows 10, you can go to the settings list with the Windows Key plus i. >From the list, arrow down and select "privacy". Or tab once to thesearch edit box and type "privacy", do not type ENTER. Then tab to the results list and arrow down and select what setting you want. If you won't be installing Windows 10, then try Narrator a bit. With Windows 10, you can toggle the Narrator withthe Windows key plus ENTER. Is there a "users' guide" for using this feature? If so, how does one find it? Will this feature allow one to resolve some problems caused by not being able to totally access the screen with the PC, JAWS, and/or the Touch Cursor? Now, regarding "leaving everything to the default" during Windows 10 set-up, were these the dialogue check boxes regarding what information you were willing to "send to Microsoft"? If so, you might want to revisit these boxes to uncheck them. However, someone else will have to tell you how to do this as I am not all that technically inclined, and have never done a "Windows installation" myself. On the subject of installing Windows 10, there was a message, from 1 of the listers, that gave very clear directions on how to avoid giving away your "privacy" to Microsoft. If the person who sent that message is seeing this, perhaps she/he could resend those instructions. I have no intention of installing Windows 10 for some time yet - not until "most" of the bugs have been worked out, and after JAWS 17 has been released - for a while, to be sure. So, I did not hang on to that message at the time. Hello, I didn't get JAWS again until the whole process of installing Windows 10 was finished, almost 3 hours. JAWS was alive for the download phase, about 50 minutes. I could get JAWS to read the progress line showing the percentage completed. I had sighted assistance after the reboot. Since, I was told that I could have finished the install process by starting Narrator with the Windows Key plus ENTER. The final phase required setting check boxes to allow your loss of privacy. I left it simple by leaving everything to the default. On some computers, the chevron button has a: start Windows 10 button This I did not use because the computer did not have it in the chevron button. Hi, I just went through the process of installing Windows 10. The Freedom Scientific site: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Windows10Upgrade says that you have to first use the utility tool to remove all versions of JAWS prior to the latest version of JAWS 16: 0.4350. The latest version of Jaws works with Windows 10. Even if you don't want to install Windows 10, I would suspect that the utility tool can still be used to clean up your computer of older versions of JAWS. After running the utility tool, I still had JAWS working and it continute to work during the download and install of Windows 10. JAWS stopped when the computer began the first of the several reboots.
