Peter, I get what you are saying. I am accustomed to being able to have
access to a directory, which, of course, I can do by just getting into
documents, but for all of these years, I have been able to hit Control-O
and shift tab to directory, arrow to document I want. So in that regard,
it would seem that there has been a bit of regression?

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Subject: Need to open a text from inside WORD 2013

Ann, Thanks for the many hot keys, PC and the others.

I don't understand your explaining how to open a text file. Perhaps you
mean to open a recent document.

You say:

While you are in the open dialog, tab once to 'type' and put in txt.

What is what you call the "open dialogue"? Perhaps we are in different
places.

I use ctrl+o and I hear "backstage, open tab".

There is a list of recently opened documents.

I tab and arrow around, and there is no word "type". Perhaps this is the
problem using the ribbon, when do I tab and when to arrow? Arrow up or
down, or left or right.

I know about using the Windows key to open a search box. If I type in a
text file name then Notepad opens that file.

I need to open a non-recent text file from inside WORD. How do I get an
edit box, into which I can type the path/filename, from inside WORD?

Thanks.

Open only works for the types in that box. I always go to documents and
press enter on the one I want.

Also. If you are using windows 7 or later, you can type the document
name in the search field that you get when you press the windows key, and
bypass 'open' altogether.

Good luck!
