Hi Walter
You can change your download folder just before the download
begins and MSIE will remember it. I haven't done this in
quite a while, but, I think I remember the steps.
When the save as dialogue box comes up tab over until you
get to the save in combo box. If it currently reads
"desktop" use the down-arrow and up arrow until you hear "my
computer" and then tab once to the list and use the down and
up arrow keys to choose the drive and press enter on the
drive of your choice. This will update the list with your
folders for that drive. I use a folder on my c:\ named
"download", so in the list at this time I would arrow down
to download and press enter. Now you can tab to the "save"
button and press enter and the file will download into the
folder of choice.
If you would like MSIE to prompt for disconnect, check in
internet options, connection tab, connection settings button
(I think that is what it is called) and be sure the
"disconnect if idle for" checkbox is checked. The next
setting in the tab order in this box is an edit field for
the number of minutes to wait before automatically
disconnecting and will accept up to 59 as the number of
minutes.
I use both MSIE 4.01 and Outlook 98, and they both will ask
for permission to disconnect. What is interesting is this,
if I use both at the same time, only the program which
started the dial up connection will ask.
For example, if I let Outlook make the connection (F5) and
use a link in a message to launch MSIE, Alt+Tab back and
close Outlook, answer "no" to the disconnect prompt (so MSIE
stays connected), when I am finished with MSIE and close the
program I will not be prompted about a disconnect.
Best I can determine, MS products have this attitude about
connections, "I didn't connect it, I an't disconnecting it"

When I donwload a file using MSIE 4.1, and I download a
file, it now goes
in my desktop directory. Is there anyway to change my
download directory
for those files to another directory?
