I'll be a good boy and stick to the topic of this list, but anybody
who wants to bash Notes, please contact me directly and we'll have a
ball!
I started with it at Notes 3.2 and JFW 1.05. I've never had either
Notes or JFW do anything stupid, like incorrectly identify something,
or crash, or not read a particular window, and I also have not done
anything at all to customize JFW to work better with Notes because all
I use it for is company office mail and it works OK for me with JFW
just as JFW is.
Alex, when you get your Notes implementation installed, you'll want to
do some graphics labeling. There are graphics on the message list
window for new message, message with file attached, and deleted
message that you'll want to have right away. Don't mind at all about
the graphics on the tool bars, either in the message list window or
the message window itself. Everything that's a tool bar button can be
accomplished with a menu function, with one or two notable exceptions.
However, these notable exceptions also appear as hot-spots on the
screen above the message window that act just like tool bar buttons.
The one I use most is "Reply All/Hist" hot-spot, which translates to
"reply to all with history". Yes, there's a labelable graphic just
above this hot-spot, but you don't need to label it because of the
aforementioned situation.
I'll also warn you and anyone else of a problem I'm having that I
haven't been able to solve regarding the graphics in this and a couple
other programs. For some unknown reason, all the graphics on certain
displays in Notes show up with the same graphic symbol number. For
example, my new message, file atached, and deleted message graphics
all say "Graphic 803". On the sliding window that shows the different
ways you can arrange your mailbox, all those graphics say "Graphic
524". I have a Compaq Desk Pro 2500 with an S3 video card, and I'm
told that's the problem. So when I got this machine (which replaced
my lovely old but very useful Compaq Business Pro 486/66 that they
took away in favor of this new one), I didn't have that problem, so
now I can't customize my graphics any more.
Bottom line: Notes works fine with speech, and if you bother to label
the graphics, it's probably even better and easier to use.
