I use ScreenPower braille with JFW, although lately I have
started using Jaws by itself in DOS boxes, because this way I can
use alt-tab to switch between DOS and windows applications, which
I have never been able to do with Screenpower. You can certainly
return to a windows session after using Screenpower in a DOS box
(just type "exit" to return to windows), but what I have found is
that if you try to switch between DOS and windows using alt-tab,
Jaws loses communcations with the braille display, and cannot
regain them until the computer is rebooted. I think part of the
problem is that there is no way of unloading Screenpower from
memory once it is there (it also takes up quite a bit more memory
than Gateway). Nevertheless, if you don't want to switch
on-the-fly between DOS and windows, then you should find
Screenpower works quite well. I can't comment on Gateway as I
haven't used it in conjunction with Jaws.
For a couple of weeks now I have mainly been using Jaws itself to
handle DOS boxes. I've written some scripts so that I can use the
cursor routing buttons on the Powerbraille in DOS applications,
and if you change the "pixels per space" option to match the
number of pixels moved each time a key is pressed in DOS
applications, then you can get a reasonably good representation
of the screen layout on the braille display. Using jaws this way
is slower than using Screenpower (at least on my 100MHz machine),
and the display has a tendency to jump around a bit -
particularly if other programs are running in the background, but
I find it a real advantage being able to switch on-the-fly
between DOS and Windows, and also to be able to paste information
from the clipboard into a DOS program.
