As an access technology trainer, I took a look at the pkw typing tutor
program. I examined it from the perspective of a blind person who is new
to computers, is in need to typing practice and obtaining good typing
skills, and knows nothing about screen readers. For such a person, this
program is completely nonfunctional. I'm sure it is quite useful to the
sighted right out of the box, as are most other Windows applications. My
verdict is that older, DOS based, typing tutor programs are better for the
blind, as they often have sufficient automatic speech output through the
bios so that the student does not have to be a screen reader master to use
the program.
My advice is to get the system configured so that you can reliably run a
DOS screen reader in a full screen DOS window, then use a DOS based speech
freindly typing program like the one from APH.
