I've just posted an announcement in the Blind Programming list of a
speech-friendly Visual Basic tutorial that is being written by a sighted
Visual Basic guru, and the Moderator of the Visual Basic echo conference on
FidoNet.
I've asked if they could write a tutorial that doesn't toss the blind user
off the train a the first example, since most tutorials and lessons on
programming under the Windows environment start with drawing a graphic image
on the screen, then builds on that image throughout the rest of the
tutorial!
This tutorial is written with blind programmers in mind--starting out with a
simple routine that writes your name to the screen, then builds on that base
and goes into prompting the user for input, and so on.
The added attraction is that this particular guru monitors the Blind
Programming list and is willing to answer any questions dealing with code,
or dealing with how to get a handle on what the Visual Basic development
environment screen layout is! I'll be posting a detailed explanation of the
Visual Basic v6.0 screen layout is, and which windows we do and don't need
to have displayed.
I've also altered the VB5J32 script files to work under VB6, and will post
them on the Blind Programming site as soon as the original author responds
to my request to do so.
The VB6 JFW script files gives, (what looks to be), the only access to the
VB6 Toolbox.
The site for Lesson#1 of that speech-friendly VB6 tutorial is
http://www.mindspring.com/~brown99/basic/vb6tutor/
The Blind Programming's new web site is at
http://www.mindspring.com/~brown99/

Thanks,
Dennis Brown
