hj told me that it would work, and the driver should be similar to the 100 g.
the 100 g card is a a g p bus card, a g p type 1 to be exact.
it uses s d ram, 8 meg if i remember right.
and probley is the fastest 2 d only card.
reason here is that nobody is makeing newer models that are 2 d only.
matrox millineum 200 g uses faster memory than the 100 g and also faster than
the other 200 g models, the mystic and marvel.
both of those cards are t v versions, the mystic about 140 and the marvel
about 300.
the marvel offers video capture, which allows one to hook up a camera or a v c
r to the card.
by the way their all kinds of t v support, for insstance their is t v out
which can be used by kids playing games on a big screen.
it could also be used to play d v d movies if the card supports video
inlaying, which all the matrox 200 g cards do.
of course another great thing is that the 200 g cards also have an optional m
peg 2 decoder card that cost 80 dollars.
this card can do hardware decompression of d v d movies so one does not have
to result to software m peg 2 decompression which slows down the system.
another advantage is that this card is supposed to not require an additional
hardware i r q for the decoder daughter card.
most d v d kits require installing a seperate m peg 2 decoder card that uses a
i r q.
these new cards should make the seperate decoder card unnecessary.
additional t v features
t v in which could support t v if you use the tuner in a v c r, and the
ultimate is a t v tuner built right into the card.
when you consider that the extra cost of a t v tuner video card exceeds the
cost of a t v, does it make any sense to spend that much extra, for a tuner
that will be exposed to all kinds of electrical interference
the 200 g millinium does not have any t v features in it.
also all that i said should be taken with a grain of salt, mainly because i am
a total and i am not 100 percent sure what card has what, but this info should
provide the user with the ability to ask the right question.
all the 200 g line has the same 3 d chip set.
all have 8 meg of s d ram or faster.
all are a g p 2 x cards.
all have the optional decoder card, which is not yet available.
the marvel was so popular that for the first 2 months it was back ordered.
by the way one review of win 98 did not like the t v features of win 98,
personally i never used it.
also of all the dual purpose cards in the market right now, 2 chip sets stand
out.
the matrox, and the new intel video chip set.
hj usually tries to make sure that their stuff works with the matrox line.
when i say duel purpose i mean that the cards are better than average business
graphics.
plus they have the very best 3 d video of any duel purpose cards
the intel chip set is found in many cards, like diamond etc.
both these cards allow one to play 3 d games at about half the speed of the 3 d
voodoo 2, which is only a 3 d card .
by that i mean if you own the voodoo 2 you still need to buy a regular video
card.
that card is the very best 3 d card, so to be honest if you have a child these
newer dual purpose cards really are the first cards that can play 3 d games
like quake very well
hope this info is helpful.
if the cards from matrox measure up to all their claims it should prove to be
the very best video card in the market.
one other point, i said that video capture allows one to hook up a v c r, what
i should have said is that it allows a special high end v c r with editing
capabilities, so the user can clip a single frame from the v c r and store it
on the harddrive.
just wanted to point out that their is a differance between t v in and video
capture.
