Dear Margaret, I use PC anywhere for my work as a medical transcriptionist.
The computer at my employer's office is the host computer, and I can
transfer my files from home where I do my work. If I have a problem, they
can retrieve the file we want to be transferred, and that is that. It has
taken a good bit of getting used to, though, and you have to use your Jaws
Cursor a lot for the mouse, and it can be a pain in the neck and a few
other places at times. I had to figure out just how and when to manipulate
the JFW cursor, and it didn't fall into place overnight. I don't know
about other aspects of the program, as my boss installed and configured it,
and made some files of mine to be in My Documents, but the file transfer
portion works great. I have heard that chat and other aspects of the
program do not work as well. One thing that helped me is that my sighted
boss put herself in my shoes and used the keyboard instead of the regular
mouse because she wanted to really see how I would go about it. It is a
handfull to deal with, but it can be done. She also told me that even
though the computer said blank right above the P in PC Anywhere, that was
the icon for their computer, and I should click on that and it would get me
to the menu where I use the arrows to find online menu and press enter.
After that, I just find the File transfer button and press enter. Then, I
use the Jaws cursor to find My Documents and then use the PC cursor to find
the file I want to transfer. I press the Spacebar, and then I route Jaws
to PC and find the send button and click the left mouse button on that
once. I press enter when it asks if I want to send that particular file,
and I press enter for the okay button. The file is then transferred, and
the computer beeps when it is done. I just recently in the last couple of
weeks found out that I could use the JFW cursor to read the file transfer
status screen and see if the file has transferred and not have to call the
office and ask. As for closing, I have to find that option in several
screens to forward properly, but it can be done.
