Disabling password script

Hi Listers
Would someone please give me a point in the right direction
as to where I can find the script which is responsible for
echoing *** on a password box?
I use headphones at all times both at work and at home.  So
although this is a great idea for those who listen out loud,
I find it to be rather annoying.
