From: "Sean Murphy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi bill and everyone. if people are not having satisfaction with the video support that JFW is providing, then please send your concerns to HJ. e.G. Send your messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cheers Sean. >>> bill cameron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 11/February/1999 09:59am >>> From: bill cameron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> no where did i blame hj for using the 16 bit driver, that was a t i saying that, i did take issue with hj and say that 32 bit code is more stable. translation it works better, because all i care about is stability, not fancy features. not sure why dan pointed out that one could use a bunch of colors and higher resolution when jfw does not perform properly at those resolutions. one more thing, i never said the matrox driver is 32 bit, i imagine it is also 16 bit. though i have not looked into this. true win 98 has some 16 bit code but not as much as win 95. n t has none. so guess what, win 95 crashes about 3 times a day, win 98 about every 2 days, and n t can go a whole week. so you tell me is their a relationship between stability and 32 bit code. most people will tell you video drivers are often the cause of a crash, not just for blind people. now my point about matrox is that if you have to replace a card their are reasons why it is the best choice in most cases. understand that 3 d cards cause more problems in general than 2 d cards. so if my 3 d matrox is reading better than my 2 d a t i mach 64 card it says their is something about the a t i card, some reason it is only 98 percent as good. by the way both cards i own are on the original list of 5 cards that hj listed as compatible. i suggest that if you reread the message you will see where i say this is hj, it starts with dan clarks message following the letter f. what i meant by reading between the lines is that dan clark statement that he is the one recommending the matrox line. the fact he says it works with all their software, plus the fact he recommends it would probley indicate that they test first the matrox line, of course this a guess on my part based on some facts. my point is that more than likely the best card to use in windows is proble the 2 d matrox 100 g. the best 3 d card is probley one of the 3 d matrox cards. while hj is slow to test the 200 g, this list has had several people happy with it. plus it supports video inlaying and has a optional m peg 2 decoder daughter card. this may or may not be importan. if you are replaceing a video card in a system with a d v d player be sure to see if it uses hardware decompression or not, if it does this card will work as a replacement in all situations. some cards will not. also earlier millineum cards support video inlaying but do not have a optional daughter decoder card. this additional info about the card working in all situations, does not mean it works in all systems, if their is a conflict with another device it may not work. all i meant by that is that their are 2 types of hardware decompression. one type has a seperate decoder card that decompresses m peg 2, but it by passes the main video card. the other type of kit has a seperate decoder card that does not by pass the video card, for this to work the video card must support video inlaying. now third generation cards support video inlaying and m peg decompression all in one card. a t i does have a card that does this, but it is not the rage pro. the matrox can do this only after buying a daughter card. the advantage of the matrox is it can work with a kit that has its own decoder card that uses video inlaying. or it can work with a kit that does have its own decoder card that does not use or need video inlaying. or it can work with a seperate d v d drive that has no decoder card. by the way the fact so many smart people are haveing trouble goes to my point hj has a differant meaning to compatible. as you can see the news letter clearly says the a t i rage pro should work out of the box, well people on this list disagree. true if you get a 16 bit driver, then play with advance settings, it will read about 93 percent of the stuff. well that is compared to a matrox card. people had the same problem with s t b. i have never seen a system read write with s t b. of course it is also supposed to work. of course if you consider 93 or even 95 percent working then it does work. my view on that is it does not. so i stand by what i said earlier about hj not being honest. when i say smart people, i am talking about people that do this day in for a living. i personally do not. i am also talking about these same people contacting hj tech support, and having hj give up on it. i save most of the messages to this list on video card issues because hj does not deliver in this area.
