That's just it.  Line numbers, as we once knew them, don't exist in
Windows.  It's all dependent upon font size and screen resolution.  the
best thing you can do is to find a layout you're comfortable with and
stick with it.  I know this plain vanilla approach sounds mundane, maybe
even pedestrian, but it works.
