My thanks to all who offered suggestions for the solution to my problem
about a speech friendly faxing program that also worked with Omnipage 9.
All of the suggestions, even those that were thought less than ideal,
were very helpful and much appreciated. My thanks particularly to Ivan
who unknowingly gave me the answer to the program to use and to Erin who
was helpful with format as well. Here's my results for what there worth
to anyone else who has been struggling with this problem.
First of all, i started out with a speech friendly fax program, winfax
pro 8.0, as it's the one I have. I do not know about 9 and it's
accessibility as I have never tested it. Again, I'm just telling you what
I did.
The first thing I did was set winfax to automatically answer a call and
received the fax. When the call is done, your presented with a line of
information: the time, date of the fax, the faxing party, the number of
pages, etc. Jfw reads this surprisingly well. Hit enter on this
information and you will be taken in to the fax viewer. This part
obviously does not talk whatsoever. When you have the viewer up on the
screen and jfw will announce when you do go to file, then to export.
You'll have to tab arround a bit. The first field you'll want to fill in
is filename. Then tab until you get to format, the default should be
winfax standard or something like that. You do not want this.
OnniPage 9.0 will not read winfax 8's .pcx format, so I selected .tif
and tabbed to look in, this is where the exporeed picture will be sent.
Set this to whatever you want. Tab to export, hit enter, wait a minute or
so and that's it. Next thing you'll need to do is close winfax, and fire
up omniPage 9.0. I used the OCR aware function and scanned directly in to
word, again, there may be different ways of doing it, but that's what I
did and it was jfw friendly.
I opened up word, went to file, then acquire text settings. I set it
from scan image, to load image, then hit enter. I next went to file, then
acquire text. I was then prompted for the path to the image to load. I
entered that, made sure I was scanning a .tif file, and said ok. The next
thing I knew jfw was so kindly reading my fax.
