I think I can help with this one. This problem irked me too when the 19
patch came out, but I hadn't bothered to actually sort out the problem until
now.
If you want to apply patch 31 to your JFW installation that is in a
different drive and directory than the usual default "c:\jfw32" follow the
instructions below.
1 Unzip the patch into a directory somewhere of your choosing.
2 Go into the directory where the contents of the patch are and you
should find a number of files including one called "install.dat".
3 Open this file with Notepad or some other text editor of your choice.
If Wiindows complains that you have no associated program that can open the
file press TAB to get to the listview of programs and search through the
listview for a suitable text editor and press enter when you have found it.
4 Whilst in the editor with "install.dat" open, scan down the file until
you get to a section
called "@DefineProject" (without the quotes). I have included the section
from my altered one here so you can see what I did, just see below.
@DefineProject
@Name = "JFW Patch"
@Version = "3.20.31"
@OutDrive = C
@SubDir = "\\Jaws32"
@Immediate = @True
@InDiskBell = 1
@Requires @HardDisk
@AssumeHardDisk = 1
@EndProject
5 You see that the line that says @Outdrive = c just change this to your
drive letter.
6 Observe the section that says @SubDir = "\Jaws32" this normally says
"\jfw32" with the file in an unaltered state. You can change it to the
directory of your choice by following the same format.
7 Having made the changes open the file menu in your editor and choose
the "save as..." option making sure that the extension remains *.dat when
you save it.
6 Run the install.exe to apply the patch, and reboot
Note: You can do a quick reboot of Windows by pressing control+escape follow
by letter u for "shut down" and then r for "restart the computer" and
holding shift+enter.
This method should work as it worked fine with my test installation of JFW
which boasts the latest upgrade now being 3.20.31.
