I wonder if anyone else has noticed what seems to be a quirk when dealing
with headers and footers in Word 97. According to the online help and
manuals I've consulted, one is suppoed to turn on headers and footers from
the View menu and then type the appropriate text. When you turn this
feature on a new toolbar appears which you can access by pressing Alt and
then control-tab until you reach it.
The online help indicates that you are supposed to click the switch header
and footer button to switch between typing in a page header and footer. By
default you are typing in the header.
However the button you must use speaks itself as show header slash footer.
It can either be pressed or not and JFW does accurately relay this status.
I suppose my reasons for mentioning this are two:
1. Unless you know you are in the header by default I couldn't find an easy
way to determine whether you were typing a header or a footer. You can
press Alt and control-tab and check the style Word is using if nothing else.
2. For those who don't know, when this button reports itself as being
pressed you are typing a footer.
