using draggon naturally speaking with eloquence

hi,
I am trying to go through the intro steps for teaching naturally speaking my
voice sounds.  I have plugged in earphones to my speaker to cut out the
sound from eloquence and am using a separate microphone but I can't get the
voice  recognition system to respond.
any hints please?
