The reason is that internal synthesizers are designed to operate at the 8
bit or 16 bit operating system.  NT and all similar operating systems will
operate at 32 bit or 64 bit levels.  As for a fix I doubt much will be done.
Most screen reader manufacturers are looking at software synthesizers.o
