Sir
lets put this into proper perspective,
well i have been on this list for several years, and years ago nick was more
tolerant.
things have changed, instead of 100 people we now have 800 people.
think about this and i am pretty certain you will start to understand where
nick is coming from.
not saying i was never off topic, only saying that as the list grows we must
stay more focused.
or go through 100 messages a day.
Off the list i suggested nick come up with more specific guidelines.
some of the rules may be not so obvious to all.
maybe even a rule that limits responses.
some questions get 15 right answers, maybe a rule that limits a user to
responding to 3
messages a day would eliminate the over respones we get to some messages.
some people post numerous messages a day, and yes i am guilty as well.
just an idea to kick around, because not all the traffic is off topic, but such
a rule might help to trim
traffic that is on topic.
what do other people think about this idea.
and i do not think nick is trying to deny help, he has done much to ccustomize
his web site to
make scripts available, links to other list that can allow discussion more
freely about other
subjects, and links to friendly applications.
all this plus run a list for no money, a list we would not have if we had to
depend on hj.
all he is asking is that people join another list to get some answers.
that is reasonable.
plus he tries to make that easy by provideing all the info to do so.
by the way people that leave do not hurt nick getting info, he is already well
versed in jfw, the
people that get hurt in the long run are the people like us that still need
help.

p s i know that this message is usely supposed to be sent to nick, privately,
but i wondered what
others thought about my suggestion.
i think my suggestion is better than reverseing the fields like we did about a
month ago.
i have no capacity to make such a rule, but do think most on this list do
agree that
this list does need to be trimmed down.
one other thing, we could also issue a similar for asking questions.
now on this i want to say that what i am proposeing would not limit the
number of questions one
could ask in one thread, no my suggestion would only limit the number of
threads they could
generate in one day.
like to one.
one other thing here, some people will be involved in a thread and crank out 4
messages in a row on that thread, well i say more power to that person for
being
so helpful, but please try to combine those messages into a single message that
is longer in length.
for 2 reasons.
reason 1 is so we do not have 8 messages in a row on the same topic to weed
through,
the second reason is because if you do this very often most people will not
even bother to read
your message at all,
so in the long run this behavior usually results in the person getting less
help.
maybe we could go so far as to have differant rules governing week ends.
all my suggestions are just that, suggestions for trimming on topic info.
i shall leave what is off topic up to nick, and live by his rule.
